2007 Harvest
2007 was, to put it mildly, a very difficult year... To begin, we had a very full and copious bloom on
the trees. Then came the rain to wash the pollen out. Next, nature let loose with a very hot period just
after the rains. The heat wilted what few blossoms remained after the rains, leaving precious little to
generate fruit. So, what looked to be a very promisiing year, turned into a disaster. All in all, the year
of 2007 will go down as the worst harvest in California since 1931. Most producers, Sylverleaf included,
reported harvests that were only 15% of a normal year. What fruit was left on the trees contained a solid
amount of oil and the flavors were very good. No picking crews were to be found, so we learned to pick the
olives by ourselves...
