On Saturday, it rained a nice, steady rain most of the day. This was the perfect day to plant 20 baby Picual trees (14-16” tall). We desperately need the moisture, but that didn’t necessarily make standing out in the weather, pleasant. Gene and I aren’t afraid of the wet stuff. The drizzle made playing in the dirt so much more fun! Mother Nature continued to bless us with a lovely rain that lasted all night. What a time saver for us to have the little cuties watered for us!!

Gene planting trees

We have a large front yard that was once planted in rows of olive trees. Someone who lived here along the way wanted to have a gorgeous yard instead of an olive orchard (completely understandable). Now, the property belongs to two crazy olive oil producers/farmers/slaves. What we need is MORE trees! Yeah!!!

The two varietals of baby trees we purchased will both produce Spanish olives, keeping with our current Spanish style. These new trees will add their own unique flavors and we are excited to have them here at Sylverleaf. We will be able to watch them grow (hopefully) into fruitful, gorgeous trees. It will be at least five years before we look to get any olives from them, but we can wait.

Baby Picuals

First, they must survive the deer and the winter…
