In the Very Beginning...
In 2003, after tasting our own olive oil running fresh off of an olive press, Sylverleaf Olive
Oil was born. With the encouragement of other local growers and our friends and family, we hand-picked
more than 3200 pounds of olives to make a small batch of oil. We milled and pressed the fruit at
a nearby stone mill and were lucky enough to play a part in the traditional milling and pressing
process. It was an experience of wondrous sensory overload and exhaustion that we will never
forget. The aroma emitted by the grinding of olives was unmistakable—overwhelming.
We now had a new problem... What should we call this delicious golden-green liquid? For
inspiration, we wandered the orchard after a brief rain and marveled at the noble trees. The
olive leaves were reflecting silvery flashes of sunlight as they fluttered in the wind. There
it was, right in front of them... silver leaves... Sylverleaf.
